The Nashua Folk Festival was an idea born in early summer of 2007. A couple of small town guys hanging out at a local park scheming up ways to make an impact on people's lives. As we sat on the stage of the Greeley Park band shell, we were reminded of what the great Richie Havens (The guy with the awesome beard) said to us in a discussion about music and life. He said, "It's Your Turn." Well, up until that moment, we knew that what he had said was important,
but we had no idea what we had to do until we finally realized that ourgeneration must do what we can, any way we can, to make a difference. With the resources we had, a music festival seemed like a pretty good idea to give back to our local community. We brainstormed some ideas and immediately contacted the right people. After getting the go ahead and ironing out some details, it was easy sailing from then on. All that was left was raising the interest in performers and getting the word out. The response we received from the performers we contacted was overwhelmingly positive. Many were happy to jump on board and we sincerely thank all of the unable to take part in the event's first year. Then it was to the streets! With fliers in hand, we walked up and down main streets of Nashua, Manchester, Portsmouth and many surrounding areas simply asking store owners to display our flier in their windows. With a fair amount of success with this strategy, the right people began to catch wind of what we were doing. Soon, The Hippo Press, The Encore, The Nashua Telegraph, and The Manchester Union Leader were contacting us to help spread the word. We'd also like to extend our gratitude to those who were able to help us a great deal.
With everything in line and the work all done, September 8, 2007 rolled around and it was time for the first annual Nashua Folk Festival to take place. Read the review.
The festival was warmly received and we were asked to continue the festival in upcoming years. The goal is to offer a free weekend of entertainment for the city of Nashua and the surrounding area, while showcasing the extremely talented musicians in the area.
Thank you to everyone and your support. We could not have made this event happen without help from all of you.
